About Khalil

I help students build the knowledge, skills and self-belief they need to succeed in English at KS3 and KS4. My teaching focuses on clarity, confidence and steady progress—no matter your starting point.

Students who work with me quickly gain confidence in reading, writing and exam technique because I break complex ideas into simple, manageable steps.

I create a supportive, encouraging environment where students feel safe to ask questions, explore ideas and take academic risks.

I am an experienced secondary school English teacher and current Headteacher with extensive experience teaching KS3 and KS4 students across a range of abilities. I have also tutored students one on one, face to face and online.

I have trained teachers for many years and understand exactly what exam boards expect from students in both Language and Literature.

My lessons draw on years of classroom practice, curriculum design and leadership in English education.

Every lesson is structured, purposeful and tailored to the student’s needs, with clear learning goals and regular feedback.

I maintain high professional standards in communication, safeguarding and lesson delivery, ensuring a safe and respectful learning environment.

I use proven teaching strategies, up-to-date curriculum knowledge.

About the lesson

I use a structured, supportive approach that helps KS3 and KS4 students build strong analytical and writing skills. Lessons begin with quick diagnostic activities so I can tailor the session to the student’s needs.
I model key processes—such as close reading, paragraph construction, and exam planning—so students can see exactly how successful responses are built.
Through guided practice and clear scaffolding, students gain confidence before moving to independent work. I teach repeatable frameworks for essays and creative writing, alongside practical annotation strategies that make analysis more precise.
My feedback is specific, calm, and actionable, ensuring students always know their next steps.
I also incorporate retrieval practice and short success routines to strengthen memory and build confidence, helping students feel prepared, capable, and ready for GCSE challenges.
Lesson length can vary between 45 - 60 minutes (longer if the student requires it).
I teach at KS3 and KS4.
My students consistently exceed the expectations their schools have of their likely attainment.
