About John

I am an English and Drama graduate with a Level 8 Joint Honors Degree and a strong passion for education. My ambition is to become a secondary school English teacher, where I can help students develop their confidence in language, literature, and critical thinking. I have a deep appreciation for how English shapes thought and identity, and I aim to share that with young learners in a supportive and engaging classroom environment. My background in drama enhances my approach to teaching, encouraging creativity, empathy, and performance-based learning. I believe that literature comes alive when students can connect with it on a personal level, and I strive to make English accessible, inspiring, and relevant. I received a H1 in English in my Leaving Cert, and have continued to develop my knowledge through writing, tutoring, and ongoing study. I have also written several plays, which have deepened my understanding of narrative structure, voice, and emotional truth — all essential tools for both teaching and learning. Ultimately, I wish to foster a classroom where students feel seen, challenged, and encouraged to grow. I am committed to helping young people find their voice, and I see teaching not only as a profession but as a lifelong purpose.

About the lesson

I’ve spent the past several years immersed in both academic and creative writing, having authored multiple plays and worked closely with secondary students to strengthen their skills in comprehension, composition, and critical thinking.

Whether you’re aiming for a top grade in the Leaving Cert or building confidence at Junior Cycle level, my lessons are tailored to the individual needs of each student. I offer clear, practical guidance on how to approach essays, unseen texts, poetry, Shakespearean drama, and comparative studies. My teaching combines a deep understanding of the curriculum with proven exam strategies, structured notes, and a focus on helping each student develop their unique voice.

Having received a H1 in English in my own Leaving Cert, I know what it takes to succeed — not just in exams, but in understanding and appreciating the subject at a deeper level. I’m passionate about helping students unlock their potential, and I create a relaxed, encouraging environment that allows them to do just that.
