About Mary
I am excited to work with you this year. As your teacher, my goal is to create a classroom that is engaging, supportive, and respectful, where everyone feels comfortable learning and growing. I bring both experience and enthusiasm to this role. My background in teaching English Language Arts has given me the tools to help students develop strong reading, writing, and critical thinking skills. Beyond academics, I am committed to fostering curiosity, resilience, and confidence so that you can apply what you learn here to the world outside the classroom. You can count on me to be professional, organized, and approachable. I value open communication, and I want you to know that I am here to support you. Together, we’ll take on challenges, celebrate successes, and build a community where every student’s voice matters. I look forward to learning with you this year. Let’s make it a great one!

Philosophy of Education
I am committed to being the best teacher I can be and creating a positive environment for my students to learn and thrive in. What do I believe makes a good teacher? Out of context I can tell you all the things I believe a good teacher is, as one reads off a grocery list: A good teacher is self-reflective, proactive, community based, and culturally responsive. While having a list of traits and beliefs is great, it's not the same as having measurable objectives to hold yourself to as an educator- that’s a more nebulous endeavor.
I believe that learning occurs when the people doing the learning take an active role rather than just passively take in information. The world is rapidly changing and evolving and learners need to be able to share their feelings, understandings, experiences, and opinions with one another in order to create new knowledge. This means I believe a teacher's primary role in a classroom is a facilitator and model a good classroom citizen. Learning needs to be active and not passive in the classroom and a teacher is a co-creator of knowledge in the classroom- guiding students to skills and experiences they need to develop their own understanding.
