We cannot recommend Joe highly enough. He has now prepared both of our sons for their entrance exams, our older son for the 13+ exam and our younger son for the 11+, and thanks to his guidance, both have successfully gone on to Sevenoaks School.
What impressed us most about Joe is his ability to adapt his teaching to each child’s needs. Our older son had very limited time to prepare, only about six weeks, yet Joe managed to identify his weak points immediately and focus on the most essential areas. His teaching was structured, effective, and incredibly supportive. Despite the short timeframe, our son went into the exam confident and well prepared, which was entirely due to Joe’s dedication and expertise.
Our younger son worked with Joe for about a year, and their time together has been transformative. Naturally introverted, he had little experience in creative writing, but Joe quickly recognised his potential and gently guided him into the world of storytelling. Within just a few lessons, our son discovered a genuine love for writing, something we had never expected. He began creating stories in his free time, and this new passion ultimately led to him winning The Young Writers Competition, with his story published in The Magic Reimagined Tales this year. We are immensely grateful for the confidence and creativity Joe helped him unlock.

My daughter was writing the 11+ while at a state primary that didn’t prepare them for it at all, which is why we reached out to Joe. Where Joe stood apart from other tutors was that he didn’t just prepare her for the exams, but did it in a way that made her understand why she was learning what she was, and making it engaging and entertaining.

During the preparation process, our daughter had begun to grow tired of the (frankly ridiculous) nature of the 11+ beast, and if it weren’t for Joe’s skills as a teacher and tutor, I think she would have given up. He encouraged her curiosity in a way I’ve rarely seen a teacher do.

At the end of it all, my daughter received an offer of admission to every single one of the six schools she’d applied to, including two academic scholarship offers. She wouldn’t have been able to do it without Joe’s guidance and support.

Joe also stands out from most other tutors in that he genuinely cares for and is interested in the children he tutors as people, which makes a world of difference.

Joe has been teaching my daughter Drama. Lately as my daughter struggles with poetry, we asked Joe to give her poetry lessons. In both subjects, Joe keeps delivering fantastic lessons that my daughter enjoys and learns a lot. Joe is always well prepared, sending materials and instructions in advance; he also always follows up with feedback. I'm truly impressed by and grateful to his professional and passionate work.

Joe has been with us as firstly a tutor to our boy (13) and now girl (10) for 3 years. Joe has a very natural and patient style with our children, and we are particularly impressed how he has dealt with their very different personalities in a way that lets them practice and feel confident in their own ability. We hired Joe to help them through 11+ and 13+ exams, and he has made a notable difference in getting our son through that period, but he offers so much more than exam tuition. He manages to find things that will inspire and interest both my children and, unlike school homework, they are actually happy to do the small tasks he sets. Joe’s online tuition has been just as effective as his in-person sessions which is impressive. Joe is the type of teacher I wish my children had access to in all their school subjects.

Joe has been helping my son with A level drama since the start of the March lockdown. My son says he has learned more from these lessons than an entire year at school and is always enthused and purposeful at the end of each tutorial. Joe sets homework, offers constructive criticism, invites debate, and has also helped prepare him for a UCAS drama audition. I receive detailed summaries of all lessons. My son has just walked into the room and when he heard what I was doing said: ‘just tell them he is SUCH a good teacher’

Joe worked with my son in preparation for the 11+ Common Entrance exams focusing primarily on Maths but also some English aspects during the period Feb 2019 – January 2020. Joe was able to establish a great rapport quickly and my son very much looked forward to his tutor sessions with Joe each week.
Joe was able to identify any gaps in learning that needed immediate focus and had a good grasp on all the areas covered in the Common Entrance exams.
