About Emily

I recently graduated high school studying the International Baccalaureate (IB). I achieved a position on the honour roll and was first in my cohort in English Higher Level, Psychology Higher Level and Mathematics Standard Level. The IB has a large focus on writing and research skills at a university level, so I feel qualified to help school students of all ages in their English and literature learning. I also work with Alchemy Tutoring and The Bright Tutors and I have been mentoring younger students in English and other subjects throughout high school.

About the lesson

In our first lesson, I generally ask the student if there are any particular areas or skills pertaining to English that they would like to focus on. If there are no particular areas of concern, we'll spend the first lesson doing some activities and writing so that I can determine what level you're at and how I can best help you going forwards. In the following lessons we'll go into greater detail in the areas of English that you feel less confident in and when the time comes I can help in preparation for an exam or assessment task.

Rui is very bright and picks up new words and writing skills quickly. He seems to enjoy telling stories which I believe we can easily translate into a desire to write and by extension, read. Something we will work on going forwards is giving Rui more exposure to new words, as well as venturing into exam technique, introducing tips and tricks among more exciting tasks like spelling games. I believe this will effectively keep Rui's interest in English so that he stays focused for the duration of the hour. Looking forward to our next lesson!
