About Sophie
I am a senior at Syracuse University, majoring in Human Development and Family Science. I’m also a member of the university gymnastics team and have a strong passion for sports in general. In my free time, I enjoy spending time at the beach, reading, and creating arts and crafts. My goal is to inspire confidence in students both academically and socially, helping them succeed in school and life.

I bring 7 years of experience working with children’s social and emotional development, and I am currently studying to become a child and family therapist. My teaching approach is rooted in understanding that every student learns differently. When I was a student, I often needed concepts explained directly and in unique ways tailored to how I learned best—different from the traditional methods around me. This personal experience inspires me to create customized lessons that adapt to each child’s learning style. My teaching methods and techniques include using clear, direct explanations combined with creative, hands-on activities and visual aids to engage students and make learning accessible. I emphasize patience, empathy, and active listening to build a supportive learning environment where students feel safe to ask questions and express themselves. A typical lesson plan starts with assessing the student’s current understanding, followed by setting clear, achievable goals. I introduce new concepts in manageable segments, provide examples, encourage practice through interactive exercises, and finish with a review to reinforce learning and address any challenges. What sets me apart as a tutor is my ability to connect with children on an emotional level and tailor my teaching to their individual needs, especially for those who struggle with traditional instruction methods. My background in social and emotional development allows me to support not only academic growth but also personal confidence and motivation. My lessons are ideal for children and young students who may benefit from personalized learning strategies, including those with diverse learning needs or social-emotional challenges. Whether for elementary students needing extra support or adolescents preparing for more complex studies, I strive to empower every student to reach their full potential.
