About Jordan

I am an incoming high school senior at Adlai Stevenson High School with a 3.5/3.8 GPA, advanced and AP classes, extracurricular participation, work experience and a passion for helping my community. At 16 years old I currently work for Letter the Lawn Long Grove and have worked with elementary to middle school aged students in the past in casual circumstances. Skilled in communication, I will be sure to create a comfortable learning environment surrounding English for all students who feel as though they struggle or have anxiety surrounding the subject.

About the lesson

Hello, my name is Jordan, an incoming senior who participates in advanced English courses. As a past English tutor, I find that practice makes perfect when it comes to reading and writing. Students will participate in active practice, be encouraged to ask questions and receive in depth feedback. I find it easiest to break down topics, such as spelling or even essay writing, into simple steps that with time can be understood in full and memorized for those who benefit. Depending on the student’s individual needs, a class may look like reading a book together and annotating with questions, or perhaps making spelling flashcards. Whatever the student feels they need to work on that day I will plan for in advance. Breaking down essays and other writings into different sections that can be memorized and therefore simplified is another lesson I’ve taught in the past, as well as actually writing parts of essays in order to immediately receive feedback and experience. Overall, what sets me apart from others is my focus on active learning and studying that in a classroom a student may be expected to do on their own time. I find myself skilled in communication and assure you that a beneficial connection will be formed with your student.
