About Katie
I am an OCT-certified teacher and received both my Bachelor's of Education and Master's of Education at Ottawa University.
I have taught with OCDSB since 2019 and gained a lot of experience working with students online. During the first school shutdown (March-June 2020), I taught students 1:1 through Google Meet and tutored them on reading, writing, and/or math. For the 2020-2021 school year, I taught a virtual grade 1 class and created engaging lessons to support their online learning. Currently, I have been teaching Grade 3 students English and Math virtually since September 2021. We frequently use digital tools and learning programs to support our virtual learning.

As a literacy teacher, I have seen the impact of targeted literacy instruction for students in a small-group, online format. I taught an Intensive Reading Program with my school board and gained a passion for improving literacy skills among students who are learning to read and/or facing challenges learning to read. I have experience teaching students with learning disabilities, English as a Second Language, and students who have challenges maintaining attention. My engaging lessons use fun activities, games and additional resource(s) for at-home learning.
