About Rowan
I am a Juilliard-trained actor and director with a passion for Shakespeare, language, and storytelling. Alongside my professional work in theater, I have extensive experience teaching and directing students.
I founded The Venture Theatre Project in Bermuda, where I developed and taught intensive acting summer programs for middle and high school students. My teaching combines literary analysis with practical techniques from actor training.
My goal as a tutor is to make Shakespeare accessible and exciting. I enjoy helping students reach that moment of clarity and confidence.

My approach to tutoring Shakespeare and English is rooted in curiosity and confidence-building. Many students struggle with Shakespeare because when they first encounter the language itself it can seem confusing or intimidating. I try to demystify the text by invoking a spirit of curiosity and play - drawing on pop culture references or making relatable analogies to emphasize key points.
Because I trained as an actor at Juilliard and have professional experience performing and directing Shakespeare, I approach the text as both literature and living theatre. I help students unpack meaning line by line, explore imagery and rhetorical structure, and understand how the emotional and dramatic stakes underpin the language.
My lessons combine literary analysis with practical techniques drawn from actor training. We focus on understanding imagery, metaphor, and rhetorical devices; we read passages aloud to learn how rhythm, punctuation, and verse shape meaning.
A typical session might include briefly discussing the scene or passage and its context in the play. Then, working through the text line by line to clarify vocabulary and meaning; exploring character motivations, themes, and dramatic stakes; then summarizing key insights and setting goals for the next session.
