About Charliy

I have always wanted the chance to be a tutor but I am new to it. I have enjoyed working with younger children during my time at Pizza Hut (lots of pizza making birthday parties) and at a pottery painting shop (also lots of birthday parties), showing that I can demonstrate responsibility and leadership whilst still having fun. From completing the 11+ to present, education has been a fundamental part of my life. I've always really enjoyed studying and learning and so the opportunity to help someone with these skills is exciting and rewarding.
As stated above, I am currently on track for a first class honours Bsc at KCL in Biomedical Sciences but also received A* in both English Literature and English Language at GCSE, and A grade at A level. Whilst at school, I was also part of a play-writing group and continue my writing personally now.
I am approachable and easy to ask questions to, and my passion for the subject makes me interested to know the answers. I believe that self- confidence and mindset are a massive part to academic success and so I teach with a motivating attitude that encourages students to appreciate their own strengths.

About the lesson

I am a 3rd year Biomedical Sciences student but have always had a lot of appreciation for literary works and a love of creative writing.
From a young age, my nose was buried in books and even to this day, writing is a massive outlet for me. Language is one of our most powerful tools as a species; in fact, our linguistic abilities make us unique. Humanity can be understood through literature, as whilst historical context provides different frameworks and allows us to learn about our origins, the themes embedded in human existence (such as power, love, freedom) remain the same and relate-able.
For this reason, the study of language and literature is a crucial and mandatory part of education and learning to "read between the lines" is an absolutely critical skill for essentially any discipline.
Individuals will struggle with completely different aspects of the subject and so a personalized approach based on goals is the way in which I work. Examples of things we could work on could be: writing structure and style, analytical skills, research skills, time management and organisation but as previously stated, it will be down to you, and what you'd like to get out of our lessons.
