About Joseph

Hello, my name is Joseph, and I am a Classics student at the University of California, Berkeley, specializing in Latin and Ancient Greek Literature. My own studies have given me experience reading and analyzing authentic ancient texts, and I enjoy helping students develop the same confidence and analytical skills. I also have four years of tutoring experience, helping students develop the skills and confidence needed to succeed in language learning.

About the lesson

I specialize in helping students understand not only what a language means, but also how it works. By focusing on the structure and logic behind grammar and vocabulary, I help students build confidence whether they are preparing for school, university coursework, or learning for personal interest. My goal is to make grammar, translation, and vocabulary feel logical and approachable rather than overwhelming. Every lesson is tailored to each student’s goals, learning style, and experience, creating a highly personalized experience.

I focus on clear grammatical explanations, effective vocabulary-building strategies, and guided reading practice so that students develop both confidence and independence. During reading practice, we will work through texts step by step, while discussing the grammar and reasoning behind each translation so that you develop the skills to read independently.

Learning a language opens the door to understanding its history, literature, and culture.
