About Priscilla

Who I Am and Why I Want to Teach

Hello! I’m Priscilla, a third-year law student at Nottingham Trent University with a passion for the English language and literature. My academic journey has equipped me with a strong foundation in critical thinking, analysis, and effective communication—skills that I am eager to share with students preparing for their GCSE English exams.

My Passion for Teaching

Teaching is not just a job for me; it’s a calling. I have always found joy in helping others learn and grow. Here’s why I want to teach:

Empowering Students: I believe that education is a powerful tool that can transform lives. I want to empower students to develop their skills, build confidence, and achieve their academic goals.

Fostering a Love for Learning: I am passionate about instilling a love for literature and language in my students. I want to show them that English is not just a subject but a gateway to understanding the world around them.

Making a Difference: I understand the challenges students face, especially in high-pressure exam environments. I want to provide the support and guidance that can make a real difference in their academic journey.

Sharing My Knowledge: With my background in law and A-level English Literature and Language, I have a wealth of knowledge to share. I am excited to help students navigate the complexities of English literature, writing, and analysis.

My Approach to Teaching

In my tutoring sessions, I focus on creating a positive and engaging learning environment. I tailor my lessons to meet the individual needs of each student, using interactive methods to make learning enjoyable. My Tutoring Approach

Techniques and Teaching Methodology

I employ a pupil-centred approach to tutoring, focusing on:
Personalised Learning Plans: Each pupil receives a bespoke learning plan tailored to their strengths and areas for improvement.

Interactive Sessions: I utilise engaging methods such as discussions, quizzes, and practical exercises to keep pupils motivated and make learning enjoyable.

Critical Thinking and Analysis: Emphasising critical thinking, I guide pupils through analysing texts, developing arguments, and improving their writing skills.

Regular Retrieval Practice: I incorporate frequent quizzes and exercises to reinforce key concepts and vocabulary.

Structured Discussions: I facilitate debates and group discussions to enhance speaking and listening skills.
Typical Length of a Lesson

Standard Session: Each lesson typically lasts 60 minutes, allowing ample time to cover topics in depth whilst maintaining pupil focus and engagement.

Currently pursuing a Bachelor of Law (LLB) at Nottingham Trent University (2022 – Expected 2024)

Law Studies, De Montfort University (2020 – 2022)

A-Levels, St Peter's Collegiate Academy (2018 – 2020)

GCSEs, Our Lady and St Chad Catholic Academy (2013 – 2018)

Relevant Experience:

Short-Term Legal Intern, NLS (June 2023)

Developed strong analytical and writing skills applicable to English tutoring.

Community Service Volunteer

Enhanced communication skills through interactions with diverse groups.
