About Jennifer

I am Deaf and grew up in a Deaf family where American Sign Language (ASL) was my first language. ASL has always been a natural part of my life, and I am fluent in it. Teaching ASL is something I truly enjoy. I often teach friends and others in my free time, and many of them have become skilled signers through my guidance. I hold an AAS degree in Early Childhood Education and am continuing my education to pursue additional degrees. My background in both Deaf culture and teaching gives me the ability to create lessons that are patient, engaging, and tailored to each student’s needs. Whether you are completely new to ASL or looking to grow your skills, I would love to help you learn and connect through sign.

About the lesson

Visual learning: using facial expressions, body language, and handshapes to make meaning clear.
Step-by-step progression: starting with fingerspelling, basic vocabulary, and everyday phrases before moving into grammar, classifiers, and conversational fluency.
Real-world context: teaching signs through themes (family, school, work, hobbies) so students can immediately apply what they learn.
Cultural awareness: including Deaf culture and etiquette, since ASL is not just a language but part of a community.

I create a supportive environment where mistakes are part of the learning process.

Beginners: people completely new to ASL who want to start building vocabulary and conversation skills.

I can adapt lessons for children, teens, or adults depending on their needs and learning style.
