About Hunter

My name is Hunter and I began learning how to program when I started college. Unfortunately, my high school didn't offer any computer science courses, and I never realized how much of a setback not having any experience would be until moving away to college and beginning my computer science degree.

During my first year, I was in the library day and night attempting to learn everything that it felt like all my peers had already known for years.

After my first year, I began working with a non-profit called MissionBit where I taught various coding courses for underrepresented students across San Francisco. After teaching 3 different classes, I was promoted and began developing a new Python game design curriculum.

I hope I get the opportunity to teach many of you soon.

About the lesson

I've been teaching young students for 5 years now and a typical lesson would go something like this:

1. get to know each other / talk about interests
2. pick a project within the knowledge scope of the student
3. break apart the project into small problems
4. solve each problem individually
5. combine solutions
6. finished project! :)

My lessons are typically taught with the understanding that the students have very little to no programming experience. Everything covered during each class is always thoroughly explained, to the level of each student's capabilities.

I like teaching my students how to think about problems and how to find patterns in the solutions to different problems. This is an incredibly useful skill in programming as you are then able to use your problem solving skills in different programming languages and tech stacks

For university students, I create flexible lesson plans that meet their course curriculum requirements.

For beginners who are keen to learn programming as a skill, I try to merge basic mathematics and real-life examples into logic which can be implemented through programming.

To ensure complete practical understanding of the programming language, you will have multiple small projects after going through the basic fundamentals of the language
