About Joshua

I have 20+ years experience playing guitar and singing, specializing in percussive fingerstyle. The amazing thing about modern percussive fingerstyle is that it really can incorporate any style while playing multiple parts of a song. You can be a singer and just accompany yourself with chords and a beat or as an instrumentalist and play the melody on the guitar while playing the bass, beat, and middle parts. I have 5 years experience playing piano. I am very passionate about music and love to share this with others. Current Working With Children Check.

About the lesson

I plan most lessons with this structure: - a warm-up and technical work (15 mins approx) - improvisation or study piece (15 mins approx) - theory - learning a song (15 mins approx) I believe learning music should be fun and creative, I want to help you learn songs that you love to play! I love teaching kids and use a tablet with a range of apps to help make the lessons more fun.

Joshua's response
Sam is a great student, very interested and fun to teach. Not a lot of my students are interested in improvisation so it has been fun to explore some of these ideas with Sam!

I grew up with Josh as a significant role model of mine. He is patient, caring, funny and an incredibly prolific guitarist and pianist. These qualities and his undying commitment to bettering himself, and all those he comes into contact with, make him the perfect teacher. I am incredibly proud to have someone like Josh to lean on and I have no doubt that anyone wishing to learn an instrument would benefit from Josh's guidance.

Josh makes lessons really fun, that are based around our personal goals. He's a great guide in learning the important techniques that are relevant to songs we want to play and write! So cool!

I would fully recommend Joshua for anyone looking to pursue guitar lessons. He was patient, very knowledgeable.

I really doubted myself, doubted I could play guitar. But with Joshua’s encouragement I have learnt so much, and even can already play along to some of my favourite songs.

I am very thankful to him for his help :)
