Although San Diego might not come to mind when thinking of drumming, itâs played a major role in the music culture.
In fact, the famous rock-punk band Blink-182 was formed in August 1992 in Poway, California, a northern suburb of San Diego.
And we all know that their widely known drummer Travis Barker is one of the best drummers in the world!
So taking drum lessons in San Diego is a great city to develop your musical talent, build self-esteem, and character all while having a good time!
Most people think they arenât musically talented, but in reality, everyone can play an instrument they just havenât had the proper training or time to develop that skill.
If you feel like drumming is for you and you practice daily youâll improve ten times faster than someone that only plays once in a while.
Itâs really up to you how good you become!
Although itâs possible to buy a cheap drum kit and teach yourself to play, you also want to make sure youâre given proper training if itâs something youâre truly passionate about.
So if any of this sounds like something you would like to try out for yourself, then keep on reading to learn more about the world of drumming!
Â
Generally speaking, drums are a hard instrument to learn because to play at a professional level, drumming requires a high degree of dexterity and great eat for timing.
You have to be able to keep different beat timings on different drums while maintaining a time that is close to perfect.
So the only issue is that with drumming itâs hard to hide your mistakes since everyone can tell when a drummer's timing is off.
Drumming also requires both hands and feet, so you do have to be able to multitask or at least work towards learning.
One foot controls the high hat cymbals and one foot controls the bass drums, all while both hands are equipped with drum sticks, mallets, or brushes.
Besides technique, you also need to work on your stamina and strength to be able to play properly.
Learning to play the drums can come to be frustrating and time-consuming at first, but we promise you that youâll have a blast along the way.
As long as you push yourself and donât give up, you will succeed!
Â
Generally, a drum set costs between $300 and $1,000 on average, but the cost often depends on the quality of the shells, hardware inclusion, custom builds, etc.
But donât worry, used instruments often offer a great entry into the drumming world.
There are practice pad kits and junior drum kits to intermediate, professional, and electronic kits out there as well.
So if you live in an apartment for example, then you might want to look into a good electronic drum set.
Once you get used to the cymbal feel, theyâre actually pretty awesome.
It all really depends on your budget, which is why there are kits specifically made for beginners that wonât necessarily break your wallet.
Usually, kits that have wood and hardware that is cheaper and they come with entry-level drum head and cymbals.
Â
Not exactly, many self-taught drummers do pretty well by themselves, but most have achieved it through years of practicing and listening to music.
If you can learn by listening and by âfeelingâ the rhythm, being able to actually read the music will just be the cherry on top!
However, if you enroll in a school music program you will be taught how to read sheet music.
If you decide to final a private San Diego-based instructor through Superprof then we can make sure to help you find someone that teaches how to read music.
Most of the time instructors tend to include that within their lessons to beginners since many donât have experience learning and playing songs by ear.
But donât feel overwhelmed, a lot of famous drummers such as Ringo Starr, Chad Smith, and Buddy Rich never took lessons and probably never read a music note.
Legend has it that Buddy would listen to the band play the tune once, then heâd jump on the kit and play it.
Who knows maybe youâll do the same because once you have rhythm in your blood, you canât get rid of it!
