The 3-touch rule is a fundamental regulation that shapes how the game is played.

• The basic principle: each team can touch the ball up to 3 times before sending it over the net.
• The typical sequence: a receive, set, and hit sequence allows teams to control the ball and create smart plays.
• Block contacts: a deflection off the block is not considered a team hit, so the team still has all 3 remaining.
• Violations: hitting the ball a 4th time results in a point for the opposing team.

A volleyball coach can help you master these rules and apply them with confidence during drills.

Volleyball coaches in Flagstaff typically charge $16/h per hour.

This rate varies depending on several factors:

• Your skill level and what you want to achieve
• The coach's expertise, certifications, and background
• The duration and frequency of lessons
• The lesson format (online, at your gym, or at the tutor's facility)

Many tutors offer package discounts for booking multiple lessons.

Volleyball can be introduced at various stages, each with its own benefits for development.

• Ages 6–9 (early introduction): this stage focuses on basic movement, coordination, and fun rather than formal technique.
• Ages 10–12 (skill-building phase): structured lessons at this stage create habits that are much easier to build than to correct later.
• Ages 13–16 (competitive development): this phase is perfect for joining clubs and working on specialized skills like spiking or blocking.
• Adults and late starters: there is no age limit — adults can learn volleyball effectively with consistent practice.

A private volleyball tutor adapts the program to the student's age, level, and goals.
