About Sophie
I’m an English Literature tutor with strong A-Level results (A* A* A in English Literature, Economics, and Maths) and experience of studying at the University of Bristol. I’ve always been drawn to English because I enjoy exploring how writers create meaning, and how literature can reflect people, relationships, and society in nuanced and innovative techniques.
I decided to start tutoring because I know how stressful English exams can feel when you’re unsure how to structure your ideas or what examiners are actually looking for. I’ve been there myself, and I want to help students feel more confident turning their thoughts into clear, well-organised essays.
I also understand that not everyone learns in the same way. Some students need things broken down slowly and clearly, others want more challenge and feedback — I enjoy adapting my approach to fit what works best for each person.
Outside of tutoring, I enjoy reading, writing, baking, and knitting, which reflects how much I value calm, focused work and creativity. I’m currently taking a gap year, during which I’m focusing on tutoring, developing my skills, and exploring future academic paths in English and related fields.
Overall, I want to help students feel less overwhelmed by English Literature and more in control of their ideas, so they can go into exams feeling prepared and confident.

In my lessons, I aim to make English Literature feel clearer, more manageable, and less overwhelming. A lot of the time, students already have good ideas, but struggle with how to organise them into strong essays. I focus on helping you turn those ideas into structured, confident answers that actually meet what examiners are looking for.
We’ll go at a pace that works for you, and I’ll adapt the way I teach depending on what you find difficult. Some students need step-by-step support with essay structure, while others want help refining their analysis or improving exam technique — I adjust accordingly.
My lessons are calm and supportive, and I try to create a space where you can ask questions freely without feeling judged or rushed. I also place a big focus on making sure you actually understand the texts, rather than just memorising quotes or interpretations.
For GCSE and A-Level students, I spend time on essay planning, close analysis, and how to approach exam questions under time pressure, so you feel more confident going into exams.
Overall, my goal is to help you feel more in control of your writing and more confident in your own ideas.
