About Robert
The Italian language is one of the great passions of my life and I have been immersing myself in it---speaking, listening, reading, writing---for the past 36 years-to-date. I am an American of Italian descent and Italians have been amazed at my skill in their language. Elena, a native of Italy from the region of Campania, said "parla molto bene" ("he speaks very well"). Once AN ITALIAN EVEN MISTOOK ME FOR ANOTHER ITALIAN! The fact that I am self-taught is an advantage for students. It can be intimidating to interact with a native speaker but I am someone who taught himself and I know how to teach others to learn the way I learned. I love to speak and teach Italian.

I start from the ground up, with the alphabet. The next step is teaching the meaning and pronunciation of many words divided into numerous and simple categories, such as words for people, places, things. The third and last step is putting those words into phrases and sentences for basic conversation. This is accomplished without boring, dry, impractical and unnecessary grammar or linguistic theory, just learning to communicate with Italians! My students should only be raw beginners in Italian, of any age.
