About Katie
I have over ten years of experience tutoring students individually and in classrooms. I have successfully coached K-12 and adult students in grammar, reading and writing skills across all disciplines, SAT and ACT prep, and grammar for the California Certified Shorthand Reporter (CSR) exam. Prior to becoming a private tutor, my professional credentials include test prep tutoring for Compass Education Group, consulting for Lindamood-Bell Learning Processes, and peer mentoring for the UC Santa Cruz Writing Department.
I get along great with young people, having seven nieces and nephews and being young at heart. I always approach teaching with the greatest compassion. Almost nothing is scarier than being a young person in the education system, whether your student is a high performer looking to improve or struggling to find the support they need to feel like they can succeed. I also work with adults seeking to improve their professional writing skills. My goal is to help you or your student see their strengths above all else and feel that the future is bright!

I approach tutoring with compassion, humor, and a keen eye for individual learning styles. A typical session would involve reviewing assignments and subject areas that are causing confusion or anxiety. Together we will review content, talk through roadblocks, and invent strategies for tackling difficult material independently. If requested, we can also review completed assignments and develop improvement skills, such as self-monitoring and proofreading. Above all, we will build a safe space where the student feels free to try, fail, and grow.

Perfect! Katie is always patient, even when there are concepts that I am still struggling to understand. She thinks of different ways to explain it until I have the concept nailed down.
