About Paige

Hi! I am Paige. I was born and raised in Charlotte, NC. I graduated from East Carolina University with a B.S in Elementary Education and concentration in reading, I have literacy teaching experience in 4th-6th grade. I also have experience tutoring elementary-middle grade level students and coaching youth gymnastics classes. My passion for multicultural and global education led me to further my education at East Carolina University. In 2020 I received a Master of Arts in Education with a concentration in Teaching English as a Second Language.

Going on my 3rd year teaching 3rd grade literacy I have a passion for helping students become better and more confident readers! I have indulged myself in several professional development opportunities. I am Orton-Gillingham certified and LETRS trained. It is my goal to combine my range of innovative skills and experiences with my ability to be an inspiring, compassionate, and motivating teacher who will make a positive contribution to your child’s academic journey.

I currently live in Charlotte, NC and have an Australian Shepherd puppy (lots of energy). In my free time I enjoy hiking, running, reading, and enjoying great food with family and friends.

About the lesson

Teaching Method/Techniques:
-Depending on the grade level the techniques/methods I utilize varies. I have extensive experience working with students from 2nd-8th grade in literacy.
-When I first begin tutoring I ask the parent/scholar what goals they have and what they would like to get out of our tutoring sessions. Then I typically focus on the students ability to read text and comprehend it in order to answer questions. I find what area they are struggling with (phonics/fluency, or comprehension). Then I make a plan/set goals with the student to track their progress and provide research based interventions to meet the student where they are.
-Virtual zoom sessions

Lesson Plan: Grades 3-8 (1 hr session)
-Introduction (review tutoring session expectations/check in)
-Learning Target (what the student is expected to do by the end of the session)
-Engage (learning concept is introduced through an engaging activity)
-Explore (scholar will use their background knowledge to explore the new concept through learning experiences)
-We Do (teacher guides the scholar understand the concept and complete a task)
-They Do (scholar applies what they learn)
-Evaluate (teacher and scholar review, evaluate, and assess their learning)

Lesson Plan: Grades k-2 (45 min session)
*I am Orton–Gillingham trained and use the OG curriculum for literacy lessons in grades k-2. Additionally, I add in materials to support comprehension*
