About Melina

Hi! My name is Melina, and I am an English literature and language tutor. I am a recent graduate from Florida State University, where I was awarded a bachelor's degree in English Literature, as well as a bachelor's in Humanities, with a minor in Art History. I have experience working with elementary, middle, high school, and adult students in literature comprehension and writing (both academic and creative)! Additionally, I have the Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) 200 hour certificate from my university; during my certificate courses, I gained experience teaching grammar, speaking, reading, listening and writing to English as a second language learners. I am currently in the process of doing additional certificates regarding teaching English to young learners, teaching business English, and teaching English test preparation. I love to draw, travel, go out to eat, visit the beach, and of course, read! When I was a kid and first learning to read, I struggled a lot with the process; as a tutor, I want to help students learn how fun and rewarding studying English can be!

About the lesson

My teaching methods and techniques vary, as I adapt them to meet each student's individual needs and interests. I currently have 200+ hours of experience tutoring virtually, working with several students to advance their literary analysis and writing skills. For this style of teaching, the student and I choose content to focus on, and we read together or separately. I specialize in this kind of tutoring, and always prepare personalized lesson plans to ensure engagement and comprehension. Literature is my passion, and I have substantial experience in critical analysis; it brings me so much joy to share my passion with students! I also have extensive experience in Creative Writing workshopping and a Humanities/Art History background. As for my Teaching English as a Foreign Language credentials, I have completed over 40 hours of in-person ESL tutoring, gained during my 200 hour TEFL certification through FSU. Therefore, I am also capable of teaching speaking, reading, writing, and listening to non-native English learners! My lessons can accommodate a wide range of levels, ages, and interests.
