About Margaret
"Playing guitar should feel like a natural extension of your own musical thoughts. Clearly, we will spend time on grade exam prep and specific techniques, but the goal is to make the instrument fun to play.
I guide teens, intermediate learners, and exam candidates through structured practice routines that make sense. We examine how strumming patterns interact with power chords and blues progressions.
You will gain a solid grasp of music theory while building your technical skills. I offer a free trial session to assess your starting level and discuss your musical ambitions. This initial meeting helps us determine exactly where you are and how to help you reach your goals. It is always interesting to see how quickly students progress once they have a clear path to follow."

"Having a BMus Vocal Performance degree might seem unusual for a guitar teacher, yet it gives me a unique perspective on rhythm and melody. Music is rarely about just hitting the right notes on a fretboard, because it is more about how those notes connect with the listener. Over 5 years of teaching, I have observed that 91 students often need help translating theory into actual music.
My background includes 7 years performing with the BBC Symphony Orchestra, which shaped my understanding of complex blues progressions and intricate fingerpicking. I integrate this classical discipline into teaching power chords, barre chords, and electric technique.
I prioritise ear training and music theory to ensure every player understands the foundation behind their music. Teaching others allows me to stay deeply connected to the craft I have spent years mastering. I truly love the process of seeing a student successfully execute a difficult strumming pattern for the first time. Outside of teaching, I am usually found exploring local music venues or finding new ways to arrange classical pieces for guitar."
