About Mya
I am an alumna of Ocean County College, graduating with my Associate's degree in English while obtaining High Honor Roll. I am two semesters shy of graduating Kean University with my Bachelor's in K-12 English Education with a TSD in Disabilities. I am currently student teaching 2 days a week and will transition to 5 days a week in September. I have a deep passion for teaching, English and learning, but I also had my share of learning challenges. Despite my achievements, I struggled to get average grades in high school because life was hard around me. I know how life can affect motivation, attention, and engagement in school and I am here to help!

I aim my lessons to be clear, engaging, and achievable. What sets me apart as a tutor is my pronounced and deep understanding of what students need to fully understand material, past surface level. I strive to activate past schema when introducing new information, forging a strong link between the two. I have a specialty in teaching students with disabilities and always include inclusive teaching methods, such as using a UDL model to satisfy all students' learning needs. I aim to make learning English fun in the sense that students make personal connections to their life and world around them.
