About Rachel

Hi, I’m Rachel, and I’ve been teaching English in secondary schools for the last nine years! I have experience teaching GCSE English Language and Literature to a wide range of abilities. Currently, I work with those aiming to move from B to A/A* as well as those hoping to cross the D/C borderline. In addition, I teach AS-level, A-level and IB English Language/Literature.

‘Motivation, a Good Plan and Focus’

These three things are needed for any student to succeed. The good news is that if you’re reading this, then you’ve already got the motivation to stretch yourself. As for the ‘Good Plan’ and ‘Focus’, we can work on these together. So whether you’re somebody who “just doesn’t understand what the teacher explains in class” or has asked, “What’s the best way to revise for English?”, I am happy to help.

A keen explorer, I have lived and studied in France and Germany. I am fluent in both languages and, therefore, able to assist with these subjects up to degree level. In my spare time, I like to jog and be in the company of friends and family. I am also teaching myself the violin—any tips would be welcome!

I believe that every session should count and so will provide a well-managed structure to the time we have together. Some of the things you can expect from me are:

• Diagnostic sessions to determine where you are, which will assist us in developing a plan to achieve your goals.
• A calendar to map and track the planned sessions.
• A post-session summary email to provide feedback and action-points for the next session. (Parents/guardians get this too!)
• Detailed feedback on your work, with grades according to your Exam Board’s criteria.
