About Luke
I believe that to be most effective as a teacher, one must create a safe environment that is interactive and collaborative and that promotes problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
A welcoming environment accommodates a variety of learning styles and encourages students to present their opinions but respect the opinion of others. By giving students a voice in class, not only do the students benefit from peer learning by enriching the curriculum content with personal experiences and knowledge, but they also take responsibility for their own learning and, therefore, enhance the integration of their new knowledge into practice.
Promoting independent thinking is essential so that students can take what they have learned and apply it in real-life situations. Therefore, I endeavor to make my classroom an arena for students to learn skills and demonstrate outcomes. I use classroom practices which establish a supportive learning environment where each child feels safe and valued equally.

I model my lessons around explicit instruction in order to maximise student learning and success through a gradual release of student responsibility model. I consistently incorporate the use of ICT’s into my lessons to increase student engagement and develop student’s capabilities.
I understand the importance of holistic teaching, positive role modelling and catering to diversity through differentiation in order to inspire and motivate students to reach their full potential. I recognise that students are not ‘blank slates’ and I endeavor to expand upon their prior knowledge and skills, challenging students’ conceptions for deeper understanding.
My current role involves teaching a Grade 1 class. Engaging and supporting students through the curriculum. Key responsibilities include; supporting students in their learning, liaising with parents and community members, planning and delivering lessons, collecting and analysing assessment, and reporting on student outcomes.
