About Matthew
As a master’s student, I maintained a 4.00 GPA in a field devoted in large part to reading, writing, and research. My specialties are English, German, and French literatures of the 19th and early 20th centuries. I help students write papers worthy of the highest marks; and in doing so, I instill broadly the virtues of clarity, economy, and precision. There is much to consider when writing for a grade: structure, relevance of information, cohesion, and style are all of the greatest importance, and I’ve noticed that students struggle at all these, owing to improper instruction. I not only isolate the relevant parts of good writing, but do so always by answering first to a student’s particular abilities and weaknesses. While my training is in literature, I can teach the virtues of good writing to all students. For students interested specifically in literature, I can help with reading comprehension, as well as finding what is most relevant and interesting in a given text.
