About Kelsey

I am a performer, composer and educator based in Brooklyn, NY. Before relocating to the East Coast, I taught bass at Cornish College at Seattle University while freelancing throughout the Pacific Northwest. I perform and tour across the US and internationally with a variety of artists spanning Afro-Latin music, contemporary Jazz, Brazilian Jazz, classical ensembles, pop and rock music.

Having grown up in a family of musicians and educators, I am equally passionate about playing music AND the art of teaching. I received a Master's in Bass Performance from Arizona State University under the direction of Catalin Rotaru. I studied briefly at conservatory in the Netherlands and returned to the US to work and teach for the last 12+ years.

In addition to a strong focus on technique and theory, I offer knowledge about the industry at large whether that is to help students of all ages build their career, take auditions, find musicians to play with, or simply develop their love of music, to be creative and have fun.

I offer electric bass, double bass and music theory lessons to students of all ages and levels. With an emphasis on ear training and technique, I follow the students’ musical interests as a vessel for accomplishing their goals. With a masters degree in classical bass and over 12 years of teaching under my belt, I have a very intentional and well tested method for teaching technique, sight reading, classical repertoire and playing orchestral and chamber music. I am also very passionate about teaching jazz, building bass lines, improvisation and demystifying the theory behind it. I currently offer both Zoom lessons and in-person lessons if you live in New York. Please reach out if you have any questions!
