About Mary
I am a mom who home schooled my children while working part-time in my own businesses. I have come to understand the different learning styles and found it necessary to adjust teaching to each child to be most effective. I have also had to learn great patience in teaching my own children while attitudes can be difficult with parents. Only using reading to learn a subject is not satisfactory for effective teaching. Being able to take a subject and find a way that involves visual or auditory senses to apply it helps make teaching most powerful. I am finished home schooling now that my children are in college. I have a passion for teaching and desire to continue.

For the most effective teaching, I prefer my students to involve a physical part of themselves to be involved in the whole learning process, whether visual, auditory, or hands on methods. I have also found it best to allow my students to walk through a problem while I coach them so they can have actual experience and confidence giving them the ability to learn how to solve problems independently. Taking shortcuts in teaching results in difficulties in long term understanding and retention. Taking the extra steps to create visual, auditory, and hands on learning allows students to understand concepts for long term retention and continued progression.
