As a student myself, I have dealt with a lot of teachers who put grammar ahead of content. As a teacher, I try my best to do the exact opposite. I like to start with analyzing and discussing the text because I believe the student's ideas are more important than spelling. Although grammar is important, it should be discussed in the final drafts - not the first.
I am a writer/editor with a background in education - specifically tutoring/teaching English for middle school, high school, and college level students. I have worked for both Seattle School District and Oakland School District and have seen positive grade changes in both locations.
