About May
My mother was Greek and my father was English, so I grew up speaking both Greek and English at home. I have always loved languages and Greek, although not an easy language to learn, is a very beautiful one. It's very rewarding to pass on my interest and love of the language. I have a degree in English and Drama from the University of Sheffield, and I lived in Thessaloniki in Greece for several years teaching English and living with my Greek family. I spent many years teaching Greek in several adult education institutions in Kent and East Sussex, and have done a lot of private teaching in groups and one-to-one lessons.

With each student, I will first assess your level and discover exactly what your aims and wishes are; some people like to learn formally, while others want to learn to communicate with Greek family members and friends, and therefore prefer a less formal approach. I mainly teach adult beginners and intermediate learners and lessons are generally 45 minutes. I have over 12 years' experience teaching Greek, in private classes of up to 12 students, in one-to-one sessions and online. I am half Greek and grew up speaking both Greek and English at home. I have lived and worked in Greece, but now live in southeast England. I have also taught English as a foreign language and therefore have lots of training and experience of teaching languages. I believe that the most effective teaching approach is a mix of several strategies that cover the skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing, and should be tailored to an individual student's needs. Task-based learning works the best, in my experience, and I have a wide range of resources to deliver this. I look forward to meeting you!
