About Daniel

Hi, my name's Dan, I currently teach English to Key Stage 3 and 4 nurture group classes, (ages 11-16) in a state school in Kingsbury, London. Alongside my teaching, I have a packed schedule tutoring English Language, Literature, Drama and Public Speaking. Before teaching, I spent over two decades as an actor, with leading roles in London West End Theatre shows, TV, Film and Radio, winning awards for my performances on BBC Radio 4. The reason I mention my acting experience is that it gives me an in-depth understanding of many of the texts on the curriculum, along with a genuine passion for language and textual analysis. I adore my work with children and I finish most of my online sessions with a big smile on my face, as I really feel it is my calling to improve young lives and empower young people's prospects of success. I tutor children of all ages, including primary and secondary/high school. My lessons are a combination of grammar/creative/persuasive/journalistic writing exercises, analysis of texts from the curriculum, essay technique, public speaking techniques and as many reading-out-loud, confidence building exercises as possible! My experience teaching public speaking all around the world to both students and major corporations such as Vodafone and EE means I can really help when it comes to tutoring Public Speaking modules, so with the current curriculum as it is, I am of great assistance to English students and have a great success rate when it comes to achieving the desired results for students preparing for drama school auditions and LAMDA exams. For free revision content, please watch my YouTube channel 'English Lit Up', where I bring to life the English curriculum, through Music, Rap and Drama, helping students to analyse and memorise plots and quotes in a fun and catchy way. I live in North London with my wife and two smashing little girls. Please do get in touch. I am happy to offer an initial 30 minute lesson, free of charge, so that you can get to know me first and feel secure in the knowledge that you are in good hands! I look forward to hearing from you.

About the lesson

I have a particular gift of helping children understand text. Through exciting reading techniques and character analysis, I bring to life, what can sometimes seem to a child at first, a dusty old book, into a relevant, living story with reference points that help them understand the themes and character developments. With my experience on BBC Radio 4 as major narrator for 'Poetry Please' I am also gifted with teaching poetry and my own excitement and empathy for our great works of literature rubs off on my students too.

Perfect! Daniel made me feel welcome right from the start. He's excellent at putting any self-doubts to rest and quickly adapts to the needs of his students. Although I'm already fluent in English, I wanted to work on reducing my accent, and I'm so glad I found Daniel for that. He was able to quickly pinpoint areas in my pronunciation that we could work on together, and I’m really pleased with the progress we've made. He's a fantastic tutor, and I highly recommend him to anyone looking to improve their English.

Daniel provided vocal coaching to own young daughter to strengthen her phonics, and increase her confidence and ability in speaking to groups of people. My daughter really enjoyed the lessons and learned some valuable skills through memorisation games, story creation activities and speaking exercises. Daniel is extremely polite and well spoken and really knows how to interact with young children in a way that is fun and keeps them interested - yet still able to teach the concept at hand. Would highly recommend Daniel.

Daniel was my tutor for my B1 english proficiency exam. He was an excellent teacher: very patient, accommodating, and always prepared for our lessons with worksheets. His teaching is great and the lessons are never boring but always engaging. He helped me achieve a great mark in my exam and I passed on the first attempt. I have improved very much under his guidance and I recommend him wholly. Thank you ！

Daniel has been tutoring my son in GCSE English language and literature. My son is academically very good, but he struggles witih English because it's not a subject he has enjoyed in the past. Daniel has the knack of making the sessions fun and enjoyable. Miraculously, my son now looks forward to his English sessions and as a result has improved enormously, with his predicted grades already increasing.

I have had drama lessons with Danny since November of last year year, with aim of auditioning for accredited drama schools.
Right from the start he has been patient, methodical in guiding me (both in terms of the pieces I chose and the how I performed them).
My time with Danny has been a pleasure and I have benefited greatly from in his industry experience.
I have no hesitation in recommending him to perspective students/clients.

Daniel's public-speaking expertise coupled with his honest and open approach gave me the confidence I lacked ahead of giving a best man's speech in front of 150 people. It's testament to Daniel that I was able to relax, enjoy the day and put in a performance of which I am proud.

From the first contact he is extremely friendly and communicative. Daniel was prompt, considerate and very clear and sensitive in his approach. He helped my son explore not only the character he was portraying but his situation and surroundings
