About Katie

*TARGETED GCSE AND A-LEVEL CHINESE TUTORING TO ACHIEVE TOP GRADES*

*CASUAL/ADULT LEARNING TUITION: ALL LEVELS WELCOME*

Nĭ Hăo! My name is Katie, currently a full-time student, I have been a Mandarin Tutor and EFL Tutor for the past 3 years!

As I am half-Chinese, I am a native speaker in both English and Mandarin with a standard dialect. As many past and present students have said, this is the best of both worlds in terms of receiving tuition - you are taught accurate, authentic Mandarin with comprehendible English and no language barriers!

As a recent High School Graduate, and having achieved full UMS in my GCSE Mandarin qualification with full raw marks in 3/4 units and an A* at A-Level, I am here to help you achieve the top grades with strong knowledge of exam technique. Tailoring your study programme to what is exactly in your specification, instead of merely memorising phrases your teacher has given you, we'll work together to make sure you understand what it is you're actually learning. Having gone through the learning process myself, I'm here to help you make sense of what is one of the most challenging languages out there, with tips and tricks that I've found along the way. With teaching methods a little more unconventional than what you're probably used to, I hope to make learning Mandarin an enjoyable process and one that won't make you want to tear your hair out!

For more casual learners, we aren't bounded by specifications so you have the complete freedom to decide what exactly it is you want to learn about. Whether it be purely conversational Mandarin to cultural studies to Chinese brush painting, we can come up with a fun programme of study. For those of you wanting to learn Mandarin from scratch, please get in touch for a price quotation.

Our first lesson is complimentary and it is where we will spend time building up your student profile and going through your expectations from me as a tutor. We will also be assessing your ability and addressing your aims from tuition to create a suitable learning programme to get you to the level you want. I will also give you a small taster of what a typical lesson will be like. I look forward to meeting you soon!

I’m a casual learner who has been learning online with Katie for nearly two years now, safe to say she’s a real gem!

Not only does she know her subject very well, she is amazingly supportive and kind in getting my knowledge to the level I want to be in all areas of Chinese language and culture. Katie goes above and beyond to tailor the lesson and learning materials to my individual needs. I particularly love the resources she makes, it is evident that she puts in lots of additional effort before and after the lesson to produce materials that target my areas of weakness which results in visible and speedy improvement.

Katie’s lessons strike the perfect balance between being factual and fun. Everything is so well explained and I couldn’t ask for a better tutor!
