About Sasha
I am a native English speaker from Canada with international teaching experience in France. I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Management & Organizational Studies (Consumer Behavior), with a Minor in Psychology and a Certificate in Practical French. I am also certified in First Aid and CPR, and graduated high school with an Honors Certificate of Bilingual Studies (French Immersion). Most recently, I worked as an English Teaching Assistant in Lille, where I taught students aged 11–15 in two collèges. In this role, I designed engaging lessons to build speaking confidence, cultural awareness, and adaptability across different learning levels. Beyond TAPIF, I have worked/volunteered as a tutor, camp counselor, babysitter, assistant dance teacher, peer mentor, and faculty leader, giving me years of experience supporting learners in both academic and recreational settings.

I focus on building confidence through conversation, interactive activities, and real-life examples. I use scaffolding — breaking down concepts step by step — and vary my methods (games, visual aids, or cultural discussions) depending on the learner’s age, goals, and interests. I may also integrate French when helpful, since I am bilingual, to explain tricky grammar or vocabulary. A typical lesson begins with a short warm-up conversation in English, followed by a focused activity (e.g., vocabulary, grammar, or pronunciation practice). We then apply the new concepts in a practical context — open dialogue, or a short writing task — to reinforce learning. I always finish with a recap and a small “takeaway task” so students can practice between sessions. What makes me different as a tutor is my combination of international classroom experience in France (TAPIF), my bilingual English–French background, and my training in psychology, which helps me understand motivation and learning styles. I also bring leadership and mentoring experience, so I know how to create a supportive, encouraging environment. My lessons are structured but also fun, designed to reduce the fear of making mistakes while keeping progress steady. I work with all ages of learners who want to improve their English for school, work, or travel. I also enjoy helping beginners build confidence from day one.
