About Jack

I graduated with a BA in Classics from Oxford University in 2015 and an MA from Durham University in 2023. I specialise in Latin and Greek language, philosophy of language, and linguistics. During my undergraduate years I taught with the Iris Project, a great charity which promotes classics in schools, and several other Classics outreach programmes. Since then I've taught young teenagers beginning their journey in Latin, and postgraduates who want to learn the language for their research. After graduating I became a civil servant. Much of my spare time is spent reading and researching Latin and Greek. I'd love to share the pleasure - and treasure - of these ancient books with you!

About the lesson

I teach children of secondary school age and adults of any age. I can teach absolute beginner up to undergraduate, and am available for sessions on an occasional or an intensive basis. I am happy to focus on language, literature, ancient philosophy, and history. Some classes will focus on a text you want help guiding through, others might be on grammar topics and exercises to build up vocabulary, or we might inspect an ancient artefact together. I can teach online or in person. One advantage of online teaching is that there is a wealth of good material on the internet for Classics; I can show you where the good stuff is hidden, and what might be most helpful for you.

Perfect! Jack used the first lesson to assess my abilities and memory of Ancient Greek. Well paced, focused and useful. Really enjoyed reading Plato again and Jack's use of it to reinfoce grammar points (which is what I specifically wanted.)

He went out of his way to support a large festival we were running on top of his other teaching, and we were impressed by his ability to get stuck into a wide range of roles calmly and efficiently.
