About Lewis
I have a BA in Classics from St. Anne's College, University of Oxford. I also studied at the Accademia Vivarium Novum in Rome, where I spent a full year speaking only in Latin and Ancient Greek with a full daily schedule of classes in ancient and Renaissance literature, language, philosophy and history. I am a fully qualified teacher (including my two year teacher induction) and have considerable experience teaching Latin, Greek and Classical Civilisation from beginners' level to A-level, including GCSE.

I tend to favour a more grammatical approach to teaching Latin and Greek with the aim of building reading proficiency. In helping students master and consolidate new grammatical concepts and vocabulary, I use a range of different exercise, including translation and reading stories. With my background in spoken Latin, I am very open to using elements of a more active approach to Latin, for example speaking and writing in Latin, if of interest to my student. I tailor my classes to the individual needs of my students depending on their goals, whether that to be learn Latin / Greek for pleasure or to sit an official exam. As a fully qualified secondary school teacher, I have lots of experience of preparing students to excel in examinations, especially GCSE and A-level examinations. I am currently teaching Latin and Classical Civilisation in a secondary school, but in my upcoming teaching role, I will be primarilly be teaching A-level Classical Civilisation following the OCR exam board.
