About Christina
I have a degree in Classics from Oxford University along with extensive tutoring experience. Since 2016 I have tutored 25 different students of a a wide range of ages (8-40), in subjects including Philosophy, English Literature, English Language, Ancient Greek, Latin, Classical Art & Architecture, and Classical Literature.
I am an unashamed nerd and enthusiastic life-long learner, finding these subjects endlessly fascinating and infecting my students with that enthusiasm. My approach to tutoring has been described as kind, friendly but professional - but I do not have a blanket approach, and adjust my style to suit the needs of every particular student.
I am from a big family of seven children, with ages ranging from 13 to 31, so I feel comfortable communicating with every age group!

I am very enthusiastic about my subjects, and aim to pass that on to my students. I know it can be difficult to enjoy a subject when you're struggling at school, but I believe that enjoyment and improvement go hand in hand, so I make it a priority to re-inspire students who may feel deflated about their subjects.
For philosophy, this might mean relating concepts to modern-day phenomena; for example, showing how we could use ChatGPT to make a ‘philosophical zombies’ thought experiment about the existence to other minds. For Latin, this might mean relating the study of Ancient Rome to a student’s other interests, for example politics, literature, science, or language. I find out what interests each student, and tailor my lessons accordingly - which is the joy of teaching one-to-one. My aim is to inspire students to become independent learners and develop the motivation to succeed on their own.
If exam preparation is key, I can focus very closely on the particular mark scheme for a given exam syllabus. I help students revise for exams as well as to prepare a strategy for approaching the exam on the day. I have developed numerous bespoke teaching resources, including original exam-style questions which I can mark according to the syllabus's mark scheme. I also analyse previous exam questions to make careful predictions about what might come up. This year in 2024, I accurately predicted all four essay topics that would come up in the exam for my A-Level Philosophy AQA student, meaning we had focused on those topics in the run-up and he was exceptionally well-prepared.
I help students develop their essay-planning skills, and I provide detailed feedback on essays set for homework. I really enjoy the process of helping students improve in this area, and find it incredibly rewarding to help them structure their essays in the most logical and persuasive way. The hourly price you see thus reflects many more hours of preparation and marking behind the scenes.
I can also help make your personal statement shine by providing creative tips for improvement, and can help students prepare for the Oxford Classics entrance exam (CAT) and practice for the Oxbridge interviews.

Christina's extensive knowledge of classical civilisation has really helped deepen my knowledge of specifically roman culture and history, which has helped further my understanding of the context of Europe today.
Very friendly. Patient. Kind. Knows her stuff, too. Also, funny, therefore, fun!
