My primary aim as a teacher is to make lessons fun and inspiring. I use a wide range of materials - literary, visual, audio - to help students get excited about language and its possibilities. I promote critical and creative thinking at all stages of the learning process, and aim to provide students with tools they can use throughout their academic lives and beyond.
I can help you with:
- Middle school, High school, or College English
- Creative writing
- Academic writing at any level
- Improving your English proficiency as a non-native speaker
- Writing and speaking English in a professional context
Born in Australia, raised in New York, and educated at Oxford and Harvard, I am an experienced teacher with a passion for writing and literature. As a result, I am committed to helping students at all levels develop a love for language and attain their full potential.
My teaching approach has been honed over seven years’ work in different countries – most recently Russia, where I taught English at one of St Petersburg’s most selective state schools. Though currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Architecture, I continue to write, translate, and edit professionally. I am well-equipped to help students write with rigor and subtlety at a high academic level.
More about me: I hold a BA (First Class) in English and Modern Languages (Russian) from Oxford University, and am currently studying for my Master of Architecture degree at Harvard University Graduate School of Design. When I'm not teaching, writing, or designing, my personal interests include Russian literature, theater, and all kinds of art.
If travel is necessary outside the range of Boston public transit, I request reimbursement for taxi fees.

Charlotte is an incredibly patient and knowledgeable instructor. Her command of the English language is remarkable as well as her ability to explain confusing concepts. She has helped improve my writing abilities (and confidence) in the few short months we’ve worked together, and I would highly recommend Charlotte for anyone looking to improve their writing skills!
Charlotte is an accomplished tutor. She is a native English speaker with excellent written skills. She speaks fluent Russian and has a near native grasp of the language, both written and spoken. She is a charming, patient and encouraging tutor.
