About Oliver
I'm an aspiring academic with a master’s degree in modern literature from the University of Oxford (2017: Distinction) and an English BA from Durham University (2015: 1st class). I've studied British literature, politics and history from the middle ages to the present day, also attaining near fluency in Spanish on the side. I'm currently preparing my research proposal for a PhD focusing on 1930s anti-fascist fiction.
Having tutored English to A-level, GCSE and Scottish Highers students in the year between my undergraduate and master’s degrees, I know how helpful one-to-one tuition can be on a long-term basis. This is especially true of humanities subjects which reward students for discovering and pursuing their own particular interests.
At the moment, I am primarily looking to take on new GCSE and A-level English students of all abilities and ages to help them fulfil their potential. I also welcome enquiries from Spanish, Politics and History students, particularly where the aim is to develop an approach to learning which pushes past the ordinary confines of the curriculum.

I aim to nurture a genuine intellectual curiosity in my students and my advanced knowledge of a wide array of cultural fields means I'm well-placed to offer an approach which goes beyond what is typically covered in class and encourages students to think for themselves with confidence.
I begin by building a tutoring programme tailored to each individual and taking account of the student’s abilities, ambitions and areas for improvement. For some, this will be fairly curriculum-focused, designed to help them catch up or excel in their classwork, while others may benefit from a space to explore material outside of classwork, particularly if they are preparing for college or university applications.
