About Ellie
As a current university student with my A-level experience still fresh in my mind, I understand and am wholly empathetic towards exam stress and anxiety. Exam content can often feel overwhelming, especially for essay subjects, but I have developed ways of organising this information according to the mark-scheme such that your essays can fulfil the criteria effectively during your exam. Though English has always been my strong subject, I really struggled in other subject areas and received little attention from teachers in large classrooms of up to 32 students at my state school. I therefore know exactly how it can feel to work towards an exam for which you are less confident. I work closely with my tutees to discover their own concerns (there really never is a silly question!).

Having completed my A-Level exams in 2019, the mark schemes and exam requirements are still fresh in my mind. After achieving 3 A*s at A-Level, including full marks in English Literature, I completed a Certificate of Higher Education at Durham University during my gap year and I am now reading for a BA in English Literature at Oxford University. I tutored GCSE English students during my sixth-form years, taught KS3 Drama (school years 7-9) at the start of my gap year, and led an after-school debating club to KS3 students. I am currently an Outreach Ambassador for the English Faculty at Oxford University as well as a college representative on the Junior Consultative Committee for the Humanities at Oxford and a student representative on the Committee for Library Provision and Strategy at Oxford.
As a tutor, I like to hear and respond to your questions, read and work through your essays, and guide you through the exam mark-schemes. My lessons are typically 45 minutes, though I am open to planning longer or shorter lessons. I tutor GCSE and A-level English students as well as A-Level Religious Studies students (OCR exam board).
I also offer tutoring and guidance to students preparing for the Oxbridge ELAT (English Literature Admissions Test) and the Oxbridge interviews. I applied to Oxford twice so I am experienced in what makes a successful and unsuccessful applicant or interviewee!
