About Joanna
Genealogy is not simply a list of names going back in time: it's a collection of stories and connections illustrating social history and the serendipity of coincidences that resulted in who we are. I find it intriguing the moves families and individuals made in pursuit of work or 'betterment' or simply because they were ordered. My own tree includes 3700+ people. With a full set of 32 Great great great grandparents, my family are in East Sussex, Wiltshire, Gloucestershire, Somerset, Kent, Isle of Wight, Guernsey, Hampshire, London, Derbyshire, South Yorkshire, Herefordshire, Breconshire in Wales. Step back a generation, though with only 49 Gt gt gt gt grandparents verified, and we add Fife, Scotland into the mix. Step back a further generation and those settling in London came from Essex, Surrey, Lancashire, West Yorkshire and North West Germany. Makes answering the question of where we came from originally not particularly straightforward, but the stories that unfold when trying to find that answer are often far more interesting.

As a guide: Making a start - We'll look at collecting information and clues from family and items passed down, identifying next steps, searching various resources, and collaborating evidence for inclusion of individuals into your family tree. Unravelling - I've helped a number of people unravel their tree on Ancestry after they have added non-family members and headed off down branches that need removing. Through screen share we'll check who should be included and prune where needed. Tracking the elusive - think of this as a guiding hand in double checking what you do know for clues and searching resources in various ways.
