Passionate, Committed Educator with 35+ years experience in English, Math, and Test Prep

Methodology

I believe in meeting the student where they are...My first focus is to find out what the curriculum or parent/student expectations are. Then I have a conversation with the student(s) to find out where they are academically and mentally. I cannot help a student set goals unless I know what the baseline/starting point is and then we compare it to the finish line. Education is not a giant leap to the finish line, it is a series of small "baby steps" that end up equalling the giant leap so that the student ends up at the finish line. And are already looking past that achievement point to what lies ahead.
'

Background

I am a teacher with 35 years experience in and out of the formal classroom setting. I have a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology and a Master's Degree in Secondary Education with a Science focus. My teaching career began as the second oldest of ten children where I was responsible for helping my siblings with their homework assignments. As an adult, I found myself in a teaching capacity in most of my jobs. As a molecular geneticist for 16 years, I taught undergraduate, graduate, post-doctoral, and medical doctors in the techniques required to do molecular biology research. I also was a teaching assistant for the Biology Department at the University of Cincinnati. From there, I became a full-time classroom teacher and have taught in public, private, and charter schools. I have excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the proven ability to motivate others and create a challenging environment conducive to individual and teamwork production. I am also a self-starter with a reputation as a creative problem-solver and a valued team player. I believe that every everyone is educable and deserves, if they desire, to be educated and that requires willing, open-minded, flexible, teachable, and committed educators. I am that type of educator. My areas of strength: communication and explanation of Math, English, and Science concepts.
