Own Experience I have been teaching secondary students in my neighborhood, helping them understand English through simple explanations and real-life examples.” Start with Empathy – Understand each student’s level, struggles, and learning pace. – Patient and encouraging. Avoid rushing topics. – Treat every question as important – no matter how small. Be a Guide, Not a Boss – Act more like a mentor or a friendly elder than a strict teacher. – Create a comfortable environment so they feel free to ask questions. Simplify and Relate – Use real-world examples, stories, or current events to make lessons relatable. – For example, I teach tenses through daily routines, or explain vocabulary using things around them. Check for Understanding Before Moving On – Before letting students practice on their own, make sure they’ve truly understood the concept. – Use questions, mini-quizzes, or ask them to explain it back to you in their own words. Focus on Confidence, Not Just Marks – Encourage students to speak in English without fear of mistakes. – Give positive feedback and correct them gently. Use Creative Tools – Use visuals, charts, simple exercises, fun worksheets, or short videos to make classes engaging. – Even a meme or a scene from a movie can be a great way to explain things!
