About Gino

I currently work in a primary school in London as an Academic Mentor for Year 6, a specialist education programme created by The National Tutoring Programme to help pupils exceed their academic targets in English and Maths. Prior to this academic year, I have taught Year 4 for two years and Reception for a year so am very capable of working with children of all ages. I have been tutoring for a couple of years now and have built up a strong list of clients. I have 500+ hours of tutoring experience English and Maths, most of which are in preparation for 7+, 8+, 11+ entrance exams and Year 6 SATs. My students have been offered places at private schools in Fulham, Kensington and Knightsbridge. I also spend a lot of weekend mornings teaching English and Science to Chinese children who are living in Beijing, which I get so much joy out of. I make the lessons fun and engaging and I tailor each lesson to the individual so we can work towards targets at the pupil's own pace. I always end up overplanning which is great because I have loads of resources to choose from in the lesson and I like to shape the lessons around the pupil's interests (i.e. Harry Potter, Marvel etc) to make the lessons fun and engaging. I graduated from Bournemouth University with a degree in Marketing Communications which I thoroughly enjoyed. In my A-Levels, I received an A in English which is a huge passion of mine. About the lesson

My approach to an English lesson starts off with a reading and comprehension test, followed by a spelling and grammar test to see a child's capabilities. I then prepare sessions based on what the child is learning in school that week so I can build on what is being taught and provide further cementing of the topic content. I use all of my own resources and use visuals and videos to make the lessons engaging and fun. I love using vocabulary and definition cards and playing games to match them up. This really helps expand a child's vocab. As for creative writing, I bring to the lesson an array of materials and books to ignite the imagination and allow the child to mark their own work with me so they can see their strengths and weaknesses. As for Maths, I provide all my own resources, including props as they really help children understand more complicated topics such as fractions and money etc. A first session typically includes a small summative assessment of all maths topics so I can see areas for improvement.
