About Ryan
My name is Ryan Lane, and I’m a dedicated and experienced English tutor with a deep passion for literature and reading. With a background in both classroom teaching and library science, and Special Ed. I bring a well-rounded approach to helping students succeed—not just academically, but as thoughtful, confident learners. What sets me apart is my ability to combine strong instructional skills with genuine care for each student’s emotional and social well-being. I understand that academic growth happens best when students feel seen, supported, and safe. That’s why I work hard to create a learning environment that is patient, encouraging, and tailored to your individual needs. Whether you're exploring a classic novel, preparing for a writing assignment, or just trying to make sense of a tough text, I’m here to help you build the skills and confidence you need to thrive. My lessons are thoughtfully structured, engaging, and always focused on helping you reach your goals—at your pace, in your way. I specialize in supporting high school students, particularly in 9th and 10th grade, with reading comprehension, literary analysis, essay writing, and study strategies. I’m also a great fit for students who benefit from a calm, caring presence and a little extra encouragement. If you're looking for a tutor who will meet you where you are, challenge you to grow, and cheer you on every step of the way—you’ve found the right person. I look forward to learning with you!

My Approach as a Tutor
As a tutor, my teaching method is rooted in empathy, structure, and a genuine passion for literature and reading. I believe that true learning happens when students feel safe, understood, and engaged. That’s why I place equal importance on academic success and social-emotional well-being. I strive to create a welcoming environment where students feel comfortable expressing themselves, asking questions, and growing both intellectually and personally.
Teaching Method and Techniques
My teaching techniques are student-centered and adaptive. I use a blend of:
Socratic questioning to deepen understanding and promote critical thinking
Close reading strategies to help students engage meaningfully with texts
Scaffolded support, breaking down complex concepts into manageable steps
Interactive activities, including discussion, journaling, and project-based learning
Positive reinforcement and reflective listening to build trust and motivation
A Typical Lesson Plan
A standard lesson with me follows this structure:
Check-in (5-10 minutes): A brief emotional and academic check-in to see how the student is feeling and what they need
Goal Setting (5 minutes): Establishing clear, achievable objectives for the session
Instruction & Practice (30-40 minutes): Engaging with the material through discussion, guided analysis, and hands-on practice
Review & Reflection (10 minutes): Revisiting key points, reflecting on progress, and planning next steps
What Sets Me Apart
Passion for literature and reading: I bring energy and genuine enthusiasm for texts, which helps spark interest even in reluctant readers
Patience and empathy: I take time to understand each student's unique needs and learning style
Focus on the whole student: I support not just academic skills, but also confidence, communication, and emotional growth
Library and classroom experience: My background as both an English teacher and a school librarian gives me a unique perspective on how to connect students with resources and foster a love of reading
Who My Lessons Are For
My tutoring is ideal for:
