About Deborah

Hi, I’m Deborah, an Early Years Educator with several years of hands-on experience working with young children, particularly in the 0–5 age range.
I have a BSc in Biochemistry, a PDE in Education and a PGD in Early Childhood Education, as well as additional training in childcare and education. My experience has taught me that every child learns differently, and that patience, encouragement and the right approach can make a big difference in a child's learning journey.
I enjoy working with children and helping them develop the foundational skills they need to become confident learners. I particularly enjoy phonics, early reading, English, vocabulary, basic numeracy and homework support for children around ages 5–8.
Although I am new to online tutoring, I am not new to working with children. I bring practical classroom and childcare experience into my online lessons, while making sure lessons are engaging and suited to the individual child.
I am patient, approachable and genuinely interested in seeing children make progress. My aim is not simply to help a child get the right answer, but to help them understand why the answer is right and feel confident enough to try on their own.
I look forward to meeting your child and supporting them on their learning journey.

About the lesson

Teaching approach
I believe children learn best when they feel comfortable, involved and encouraged to try. My teaching approach is patient, interactive and tailored to each child's level and personality.
For children ages 5–8, I break lessons into simple, manageable steps and use a mix of conversation, stories, pictures, games, questions and practical activities to keep them engaged. I don't believe in making young children sit through long explanations. I want them to participate, think and have fun while learning.
I usually begin by finding out what the child already knows, then introduce the new concept gradually. We practise together before I allow the child to try independently. If something isn't working, I adjust my approach rather than rushing the child.
My main areas are phonics, early reading, English, vocabulary, reading comprehension, basic numeracy and homework support.
Most importantly, I want children to develop confidence alongside their academic skills. Making a mistake is part of learning, so I create a supportive environment where children can ask questions, try again and celebrate their progress.
My goal is simple: help your child understand, enjoy and become more confident in learning.
