About Rory

My name is Rory, I am a Cork based guitar teacher. I’ve been playing acoustic and electric guitar for 10 years and have been teaching for the last two years.
I’m 21 years old and I’m from the west cork countryside however I’ve moved into cork city for college. I’m in my second year of studying Ecology at UCC. I enjoy meeting other music lovers and I’m a member of the music society at UCC.
I also love sport and play GAA for my local club Kilmurry.

About the lesson

I am a self taught guitarist and while this has been a rewarding experience it has meant that I’ve made every mistake that any aspiring guitarist can make! Helping other music lovers to avoid some of the pitfalls that they will encounter while learning the guitar was some of my motivation for starting to teach. I have also found teaching guitar to be a very rewarding and enjoyable way of supporting myself through college.
My goal is to make learning the guitar as easy and enjoyable as possible. This means staying away from reams of boring and complex theory and really focusing on what each students is interested in and wants to learn. I have found this approach to be successful at keeping students motivated to persevere with learning the guitar.
I have taught a variety of styles of music such as folk, blues/rock and metal. I am open to students of all ages and experience levels. I like to teach in person and I offer to travel to the students home where possible and in the event that a student is too far away then I’ll gladly teach via zoom or Skype etc.
I provide notes and chord diagrams where necessary.
As well as teaching music I can also offer advice on equipment, accessories and maintenance of your guitar.
