My students' needs and challenges (rather than their parents' or my own preconceived notions of what makes a student successful) is squarely at the center of my teaching. I work with students to devise creative methods to address their learning difficulties. My goal is to teach students to teach themselves: I think the greatest gift to impart to a student is a set of skills that will allow them to proceed without my help. Students enjoy working with me because I set the bar high, but I tailor my methods to their needs so that they can reach that bar at their pace and on their terms.
I pursued a PhD in English to explore the most basic questions about what it means to be human. In the process, I’ve read more books than most people I know. I've also honed research and writing skills that I want to impart for the rest of my career. Over the last 7+ years, I have worked as an educator, facilitator, mentor and writer. I’ve impacted the lives of over 1,000 students and advocated for the education of under-served populations. I bring innovation, creativity and communication skills sharpened over 10 years in content writing, facilitation, and teaching at the university and K-12 levels.
