About Eamon

I have long been passionate about English Literature and teaching. Having written short stories from an early age, I studied for a PhD in college, where I worked on a collection of stories. I am now working on the completion of my first novel. I know all too well the stresses and strains of the Leaving Certificate cycle. Needing to fit so much information in your brain is a hugely difficult task and cannot be underestimated. Therefore, I try to distill my lessons into core skills and knowledge that will make the biggest difference to students' exam technique, clarity of expression, and an understanding of key texts and themes. But I always also keen to help build up their self-confidence, so they will be able to think for themselves come exam time.

About the lesson

I always aim to demystify English Literature for students by breaking down ideas into clear, accessible explanations. Knowing that students can be shy to express themselves for fear of being wrong or misunderstood, I encourage them to share their perspectives openly.

The lessons are typically one or two hours, depending on student preference, and will be catered towards the demands of the Leaving Certificate examinations. As much as possible, I will aim to prepare students for the technical requirements of the exam, such as timing, essay structure, and key themes.

I hold a PhD in English Literature and have taught at various levels. I have won various writing awards, and I am also very knowledgeable of the Leaving Certificate marking schemes.

I offer lessons for students preparing for Leaving Certificate English at both Higher and Ordinary Level. Sessions are available online or in person, with the option for me to travel within Galway City and the surrounding areas.
