About Declan

I'm based in Newry and currently work in program and curriculum development within the Further Education and Training (FET) sector. With over 20 years of teaching experience across all levels, I specialize in designing learner-centered programs and assessments that support real progress. I’m passionate about education, lifelong learning, and helping learners build confidence in their own abilities.
I specialise in guiding students and professionals through research, academic writing, and critical thinking, helping you produce work that is clear, structured, and academically robust.

With over a decade of experience mentoring learners and a strong background in education policy and programme development, I combine practical expertise with academic rigour to help you succeed.

Sessions can be conducted online at flexible times to suit your schedule, and I welcome learners at all stages, from undergraduate to postgraduate level.

About the lesson

I take a learner-centred approach, adapting each lesson to suit the student's specific goals and learning style. My teaching is clear, structured, and interactive, with regular opportunities for learners to ask questions, apply their knowledge, and review key concepts. I focus strongly on consolidation of learning, ensuring that students not only understand the material but can confidently use it.

I incorporate:

* Goal-setting at the start of sessions
* Ongoing checks for understanding
* Practical examples and real-life application

Typical Lesson Length

Most online lessons are 60 minutes, but I can also offer 30-minute revision sessions or longer sessions by request (e.g. for exam preparation or project work).

PhD in Education (University of Limerick)
Over 20 years of teaching experience, from primary to university level
Extensive experience supporting post-primary, further education, and adult learners, including those with additional needs
Strong background in curriculum and assessment design

I offer grinds and tutoring for:

Secondary school students (Junior Cycle and Leaving Cert – English, History, CSPE, etc.)
FET learners (QQI Levels 4–6 – communications, education modules, research skills)
College/university students (essay writing, referencing, academic research, education modules)
